Birds of a Feather: An Exploration of Ontario's Breeding Birds
$ 125 $ 88 cad
Before May 1, 2025

The spring has come and it's time for birds to make their journeys back north. Migration is an incredible feat of the bird world, with birds traveling thousands of kilometers to their breeding habitats. Males are brightly ornamented, and song fills the woods as they seek mates for the breeding season.
In this course, come join for an exploration of three different breeding habitats found across Peterborough, to learn about species that live and breed in each, and the unique adaptations of each. In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to spend a day observing and learning about breeding bird species found in Ontario. From wetlands to forests, we will examine and identify species at local sites across Peterborough. We will kick off the day at Traill College with a brief introduction to familiarize ourselves with species that we may encounter. Immediately after, we will travel to our first site, observing bird species that breed around Otonabee Gravel Pit (1 hour). Afterward, we will head out to Lang-Hastings Trail, observing species that breed in forest habitat (1 hour). Finally, we will end the day at Cavan Swamp (1 hour).
Bird lovers of all levels of experience are welcome! Binoculars (and cameras) are highly recommended.
Locations: Traill College; Otonabee Conservation Area; Cavan Swamp
